The Night the Clock Stopped

Brasshaven never knew true night.

Coal stacks smothered the sky until even noon looked like dusk, and when the sun went down the gas lamps simply took over. Brass pipes lined every alley, breathing steam without pause, and the city fell asleep to the sound of it.

The clock tower kept the city's time. High at its crown crouched a great automaton, and each time it wound its spring, ten thousand cogs turned as one, from the cranes on the docks to the pistons in the mills. For a hundred years, the beat had never slipped.

It broke on a rainy autumn night.

The bell stopped mid-toll. Then the shriek of metal rose from every corner of the city. Watch-machines with no one to answer to vented scalding steam at passers-by. Cooling boilers unfolded iron legs and walked the alleys. Down on the docks, the scrap heaps pulled themselves upright.

While everyone else bolted their doors, one figure walked out into the streets.

A wandering clockwork mender, carrying nothing but a battered bag and a well-worn wrench. No bolt or plank on the road went unclaimed. What broke, the mender fixed; what couldn't be fixed became something new. And when nothing else worked, it got thrown.

From the rusted docks, through the choking factory streets, to the silent clock tower.
Someone has to wind the city's heart again.

The Road

Steam fog creeps beneath the rusted cranes. This is where it begins.
Streets where the smog closes around your throat.
Where every beat came to a stop. The tower is still silent.

The Mender's Way

Everything in One Bag

You can carry only what the bag has room for. What to bring and where to fit it: the fight begins the moment you start packing.

Made from What You Find

In a mender's hands, stray bolts and planks become blades and shields. Find an old blueprint, and the know-how stays with you on every journey after.

Douse It, Then Light It

Hurl an oil flask, let it soak in, then strike a spark and watch the fire take. Wait for the moment an enemy's state and your element lock together.

Wear, Break, Mend Again

Iron wears down with every swing, and one day it breaks. Patch it up and make it last, or stake everything on one last blow before it shatters?
